How to choose the right osmosis system for your home (quick guide)

Buying "an osmosis system" isn't like buying a toaster: there are several families of systems, and choosing badly means falling short on flow or overspending. Here's a short guide so you know what to ask before clicking on any online deal.
How much water you need per day
Start with consumption. One person easily drinks 1.5-2 liters a day; a family of four, plus some for cooking, lands at 8-10 liters/day. Then there's coffee, tea, baby bottles, plants… As a safe figure, count on 10-15 liters/day for an average family.
Almost any domestic system covers that easily. The difference is when it produces it.
With or without a tank
- With tank and pump (the classics): the system produces slowly and stores water in a tank under the sink. When you open the tap, water comes out fast. Upside: water always ready. Downside: the tank takes up space.
- Direct flow (compact, tankless): they produce the flow in real time. Upside: no tank, more hygienic and compact. Downside: flow is tighter — best for moderate consumption.
For households of 2-3 people, a compact direct-flow unit is enough. For big families or heavy water drinkers, better with a tank.
With or without a remineralizer
The osmosis membrane leaves the water very pure but without minerals. A remineralizing postfilter adds back a small amount of minerals to improve taste and adjust pH. Almost every modern system includes one, and it's what we usually recommend.
Materials, brands and "weird deals"
Be wary of:
- "Giveaway" prices online: usually systems that will cause trouble within 2 years, with no spare parts to be found.
- Proprietary "brand-only" filters: if they stop selling them, you're left with a useless unit.
- "Install it yourself from the box": if something goes wrong (leaks, noise, poor flow), nobody answers for it.
We work with systems from stable brands and with standard filters that will still exist in 5 years. And the maintenance is agreed and priced upfront.
The definitive trick: measure before you buy
Every water is different. We won't tell you which system to install without first measuring your TDS, the real hardness and the chlorine. In 15 minutes we know what suits you and we tell you straight. It's free, no obligation: ask us for the water test.
